Top Five Firms Competing to Develop AI Brains for USAF Robot Wingmen

The Air Force is funding five companies to develop autonomous control systems for its robot wingmen program. These systems will be integrated into collaborative combat aircraft from General Atomics and Anduril. The companies’ identities are kept secret to protect their technologies. A selection process will determine which vendors will proceed to produce systems for Increment One, with a decision expected by 2026. The program also plans to initiate Increment Two next year, potentially involving international partners for design and production. The Air Force aims to ensure the best performance and capacity from the vendors, with no predetermined production splits.
